Where is the Siberian Faced Tiger Boeing 747 of Transaero Airlines in 2021 ? Is it Still Flying ?

As aviation travel becomes increasingly popular, we as passengers must've observed a variety of liveries, or paint schemes, utilised by various airlines, ranging from WOW Air's all-purple livery to the particular "landmarks only" livery of India's national flag carrier, Air India LTD.

In the end, these "paint schemes" are a very powerful marketing and brand recognition strategy. Not only that, but they also assist us in raising environmental consciousness more effectively and to a wider audience than any other platform, the Siberian Tiger livery on one of the Transaero's Boeing 747 is no exception.

A collaboration between the Amur Tiger Center, a non-profit organisation committed to the conservation and research of the Amur tiger species, and Transaero Airlines to raise awareness of the rare and endangered tiger species around the world and in Russia.

This unique color scheme, which was created using a combination of nine different hues and various variations, took a total of 12 days to produce, resulting in the Amur Tiger's distinguishing head features appearing on the nose of the Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

Perhaps you may be wondering why the airline went to such lengths

With about 70-80% of the tiger's deaths caused wholly by human poaching, The fate of these tigers in the coming decades is nevertheless dependent on raising awareness to the international community in every way possible.

Furthermore, the Boeing 747-400, also consisting of 522 Seats, including 12 business class seats on the upper deck has been modified to a similar colour to the livery, and who also have the privilege of watching documentaries produced by the " Siberian Tiger" project.

Is it Flying anymore

EL-XLN along with Airbus A380's of Air France at the Teruel Airport in Spain

This Boeing 747-400, which was originally developed 20 years ago, was delivered to Singapore Airlines as 9V-SPP on June 7, 2001. This aircraft was in service for approximately 11 years until being purchased by WFBN Wells Fargo Bank Northwest as N747JV on May 18, 2012.

On the 27th June 2012, Transaero Airlines, leased the now " Siberian Livery 747" from VEB-Leasing as EL-XLN.

For the next coming months, EL-XLN was spotted in almost every corner of the world, raising the " Let's Save Nature together " motto along with it.

The Transaero airline, however, suspended operations on October 25, 2015, after being named the 17th safest airline in the world and the safest in Russia in 2014.

Following the bankruptcy of the Airline, EL-XLN was withdrawn from use on the 24th of October 2015 and was Stored at the Teruel Airport, in Spain.

According to Planespotters, the aircraft was recently delivered to the TVPX Trust Services, which deals with customs brokerage, aircraft insurance, DAR & 1031 Services in the United States on the 5th of May 2021 as N289EF.

With over 20 years of service, this Boeing 747-400, is still due to be flying for a company based in the United Arab Emirates in the following years.

Like the " Siberian Tiger " livery EL-XLN, several airlines are trying to raise environmental awareness using such concepts, Hi Fly's "Save The Coral Reefs" livery on its mammoth Airbus A380 was one of them. However, the current pandemic and associated drop in air travel forced the superjumbo's early retirement, leaving it stripped of its iconic livery and waiting for an uncertain future.

However, with several nations opening their borders to non-essential travel, I am hopeful that the distinctive " Siberian Tiger" Boeing 747(EL-XLN) will be seen once more in the air.
